This lecture will trace the versatile career of the late Sam Neill, who transitioned from acclaimed arthouse cinema to become a globally recognized blockbuster icon as paleontologist Dr. Alan Grant of the "Jurassic Park" film franchise. We will examine the monumental impact of Steven Speilberg's 1994 film "Jurassic Park", how the legendary blockbuster revolutionized visual effects, and transformed Neill into a household name. We will also examine Spielberg’s 1981 classic "Raiders of the Lost Ark" and its subsequent sequels, and how the director turned the sciences of archaeology and paleontology to mainstream action-film icons.
